President's Message

Dear Friends,

Summer sure is heating up down here! I hope you are all staying cool and enjoying the season on the water, in the sun, and traveling to new places.

Time is flying by and our new League year will start before we know it! I hope you're looking forward to a great year as much as I am.

If you haven't paid your dues yet, please do so before the August deadline. More details on that later in this newsletter. If you don't remember whether you paid, you can email our Treasurers to receive confirmation.

JLMC leadership is already hard at work to set JLMC up for success. Our approach is simple. Through hands-on training and formal learning opportunities, we will equip our members with the skills and leadership needed to improve the quality of life in the communities we serve. By identifying opportunities and impact areas focused on women, children, and civic leadership, we can address serious issues and have a powerful impact in Martin County.

Gratefully,
Taylor Gilmour, MPP, CFRE
President

News and Updates

Welcome New Co-Treasurers
Thank you for voting last month. We can officially welcome our new Co-Treasurers: Charlene Lyons and Keri Gustafson! Charlene and Keri have both previously served JLMC in this capacity and we are overjoyed to have them back in our ranks.

Impact Areas

Through hands-on training and formal learning opportunities we will give members the skills needed to improve the quality of life in the communities we serve. To continue the Junior League's tradition of identifying problems and finding solutions in a collaborative way, JLMC is reprioritizing our efforts to realign with AJLI. We will focus our community projects, fundraising benefeciaries, and training opportunities on initiatives that fall into one of the following three impact areas:

  1. Women
  2. Children
  3. Civic Leadership
Let us know what initiatives your most interested in by completing the survey here.

Member Education and Training
What do you want to learn about? Our mission is to train and create leaders. What skills/topics do you want to cultivate to become the best version of yourself? Please take the survey here to let us know how we shape these opportunities to meet your interests.

State Public Affairs Committee
We are recommitting our efforts and prioritization on the Junior Leagues of Florida State Public Affairs Committee. JLFLSPAC has been the advocacy arm of the Junior Leagues of Florida for nearly 45 years, monitoring the state legislative process and addressing issues of political importance to our members. As a member league, we participate in the advocacy process by sending delegates to state meetings and conferences throughout the year to research and debate the issues of the day, and then:
  1. Advocate for specific legislation at the state and national levels that is relevant to our key issue areas
  2. Educate our member Leagues about advocacy and public policy
  3. Coordinate the exchange of information from community-based League projects to policymakers

Upcoming Activities

Mid-Summer Social
Cool off from the summer heat at our mid-summer social! Join us on Thursday, July 27 at the Meadow's Pool in Palm City, starting at 5 pm. You can plunge into the pool or hang in the shade. Get all the details and RSVP here. We look forward to reconnecting and hearing about how summer is going for everyone!

Annual Kick-Off Party
Our league year will kick off in August with our annual Kick-Off Party! Planned by our Membership Committee, you won't want to miss a fun night to reconnect with friends and learn about all there is to look forward to this year. This event is open to active and sustaining members as well as potential new members. Stay tuned for future details and a save the date.

General Membership Meetings
Membership meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month, starting on September 12. These GMM's aren't always business-related. One meeting, we may be learning about an impact area from a community leader, and we may be creating period kits for middle school-aged girls at the next GMM. There's always something to look forward to!

Engage with AJLI

The Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI) is a wealth of knowledge and resouces for JLMC and its members. From regular conferences to stand-alone webinars, there are always valuable training opportunities and other resources available. Use this link to create/log in to your AJLI member account to get started!

AJLI New League Success Manager
We are excited to share that AJLI has created League Success Managers (LSM) for all leagues. Our League's assigned LSM is a dedicated professional who will serve as a liaison, ambassador, resource, and educator between AJLI and JLMC. Her primary purpose is to provide unwavering support and guidance as we navigate the path to success. We are very optimistic that our new LSM will help connect the greater AJLI mission and resources with our League's strategic efforts at the local level.

AJLI Lean In Circles
We are also thrilled to announce the launching of Lean In Circles, in partnership with AJLI and Lean In. These small peer groups will focus on skill building, connection, and networking across all Junior Leagues! Topics covered during the Circles will range from work-life balance to negotiation strategy to inclusive leadership. This is a great tool to further our mission of advancing women's leadership and also to connect with members worldwide. Attend an upcoming Kick-Off Session with AJLI by registering here.
