Junior League Of Martin County

JLMC Mission & Vision

Mission
To advance women's leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training.

Vision
Women as catalysts for lasting community change.

Through hands-on training and formal learning opportunities we will give members the skills needed to improve the quality of life in the communities we serve.

President's Message

Dear Friends,

At the end of last year, it came to my attention that there has been a lot of confusion throughout the League. In an effort to help level-set with members, the Board of Directors executed a series of initiatives over the past month, not least of which was the Virtual Town Hall on January 31. For a full reminder of these efforts, please refer back to the January Newsletter.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Winter Member Survey. The questions and comments included in those responses, as well as the feedback we heard at last month's committee meetings really guided our efforts in the Town Hall presentation.

The reactions thus far have been incredibly positive. Please continue to let your Advisor know what you thought of the Town Hall and what questions you may have so the appropriate League Leader can provide you with support. The presentation and a comment form will be available online soon.

Leadership is continuing to work together to strengthen our processes and programming for members, particularly in New & Transfer Member Onboarding. We would love to hear your feedback in your own experience. Please share your onboarding experience with your Advisor so leaders can make the appropriate considerations in our new plans.

In addition to all the efforts that leadership is making, I want to remind you, as a member, of the power you hold within this organization. I challenge you to take accountability for your experience as a member by participating, engaging, asking questions, learning, and diving in head first. One of the greatest things about the Junior League of Martin County is that every single member has the ability to shape and transform the organization. There is every opportunity for your voice to be heard. You just have to speak up.

Please read through this month's newsletter. This is a great resource for the month ahead and also contains a wealth of information that can benefit your understanding of our Junior League.

Gratefully,
Taylor Gilmour, MPP, CFRE

News and Updates

2023-2024 Impact Initiatives

Through hands-on training and formal learning opportunities we give members the skills needed to improve the quality of life in the communities we serve. To continue the Junior League's tradition of identifying problems and finding solutions in a collaborative way, we focus our community projects, training opportunities, fundraising, and advocacy on initiatives that fall into our impact areas. After polling members, we identified the top priorities in each of our impact areas:

  1. Women: domestic violence; human trafficking; and women's health
  2. Children: child sex trafficking; self-esteem; teen dating violence; and health, nutrition, and food insecurity
  3. Civic Leadership: individual leadership training
These impact areas drive all of the year's activities in community service, education and advocacy, organized by the committees. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to the appropriate committee chair.

2023-2024 Member Education and Training
Our mission is to train and create leaders in our community. We surveyed members to learn more about the skills/topics you want to cultivate. The top results are included below.

  1. Mental health & self care
  2. Leadership
  3. Board Member Engagement (for board service in JL and beyond)
Member education and training is coordinated by the Advisory-Nominating Committee. If ou have any questions or concerns, please reach out to advisory@jlmcflorida.org.
