Mission and Vision
Mission
To advance women's leadership for meaningful community impact
through volunteer action, collaboration, and training.
Women as catalysts for lasting community change.
President's Message
Dear Friends,
I cannot believe this year is already coming to a close. The past
12 months have brought tremendous growth and success to our Junior
League, leadership development and friendship to our members, and
great impact to our community.
While our accomplishments are many, here are just a few
highlights:
Members identified annual impact
initiatives, which focused our training, advocacy, and volunteer
action for the year
We gained 31 new and transfer
members, including 28 active members
We advocated in Tallahassee with
the Junior Leagues of Florida State Public Affairs Committee for
the first time in many years, which resulted in passed state
legislation that will combat human trafficking, improve education,
expand water safety for children, and more
We celebrated the 15th
anniversary of the Reindeer Dash by breaking our race registration
and fundraising records for the third year in a row
We continued to improve our
financial position by reducing administrative expenses and
increasing revenue that allows for bigger budgets in key impact
areas such as community projects, member development, scholarships,
and advocacy
We committed to furnishing two
newly constructed cottages that will house low-income single
parents and their children at Place of Hope in Stuart
We committed to hosting our
first-ever Women's Leadership Symposium in 2024, in dedication to
our mission to enhance women's leadership
I hope you will join me in celebrating these milestones at our
Annual Dinner on Tuesday, May 14. This dinner includes an annual
recap, award presentations, new leadership installation, and more.
Details are included later in this newsletter.
As we prepare to close out an incredible year, our League's
leaders are already looking ahead at our future.
Like last year, we will survey
members to identify our impact initiatives that will drive our
training, advocacy, and volunteer action. More to come in
June.
Taking a turn from tradition, we
will offer member programming throughout the summer months,
including volunteer opportunities, fundraising efforts for our
Mom's Haven of Hope project, workshops & training, and more.
General Membership Meetings will resume in August.
FY25 Membership fees are due for
all members. Details are included below.
Everything our organization accomplishes is only made possible
through the engagement of our 150 volunteer members. You have
endless options for how you spend your time, talents, and treasure
and I am so grateful that you choose to spend it with the Junior
League of Martin County. Thank you! Your passion and commitment
leaves me humbled and honored to serve as your president for
another year. I sincerely hope you will renew your membership with
JLMC to continue your leadership journey while serving as an agent
of change for our community.

President's Message
Dear Friends,
I hope you had a restful and fulfilling Easter weekend with your
loved ones.
March was a great month for our Junior League. Our GMM brought in a
great crowd to participate in our annual business meeting. We voted
on executive leadership for the 2024-2025 year, as well as voted on
changes to our bylaws, which include requiring member obligations
again after a brief, two-year hiatus. Our organization’s Bylaws and
Policies & Procedures are both available in the Member Area of
our website.
We also hosted our last recruitment event of the fiscal year, which
ends on May 31. Our new member count is up to 19 for the year. As a
reminder, our 2023-2024 goal is 15. This is a wonderful
accomplishment and I want to express my gratitude to all our
members for helping us reach this goal. Thank you!
Our annual beach clean up on March 24 rallied over two dozen
members and families to help keep Martin beautiful. It was a
beautiful day to give back to our community and spend quality time
together.
This is all just a brief snapshot of the great things March brought
our organization. As we approach the end of our fiscal year, I
encourage you to make the most of our remaining opportunities to
engage, including the Annual Active & Sustainer Mixer on April
9, Spring Soirée on the 13th, the April GMM on the 16th and much
more. Please enjoy the following newsletter for the latest and

President's Message
Dear Friends,
What a great winter the Junior League of
Martin County is having! As we approach a new season, I must
express my enthusiastic gratitude for the wonderful turnout of
attendance and participation in our League since our Virtual Town
Hall. Each of you is what makes our organization so special and I
am so pleased to see the kind of engagement that's needed for JLMC
to succeed. Thank you!
In 2022, we initiated a five-year plan to add
at least 15 new members annually. By 2027, with current members
retained and new members joined, our goal is to bring our active
roster back up to over 100 members. I am so proud to share that we
have gained 13 new members in this league year thus far. With
Membership's continued efforts and your support, I'm confident we
will reach our goal before the end of the year on May 31. Thank you
to all who help recruit and retain our membership, and thank you to
all our new members for volunteering your time, treasure, and
talents to our nonprofit.
As a reminder from previous communications,
our leadership is always trying to improve our processes to create
the best experience for members. In this effort, we implore you to
share your feedback and ideas with your assigned Advisor so we can
learn what's working well and what has room for
improvement.
Please plan on attending the March General
Membership Meeting (GMM), which will also be our annual voting
meeting. The slate of officers and proposed bylaw amendments were
shared last month. Quorum is required to have the vote, so your
attendance is very important! Please reach out to Jacqueline Kenna

I hope you enjoy this month's newsletter.

Mission & Vision
Mission
To advance women's leadership for meaningful community impact
through volunteer action, collaboration, and training.
Women as catalysts for lasting community change.
Through hands-on training and formal learning
opportunities we will give members the skills needed to improve the
quality of life in the communities we serve.
President's Message
Dear Friends,
At the end of last year, it came to my attention that there has
been a lot of confusion throughout the League. In an effort to help
level-set with members, the Board of Directors executed a series of
initiatives over the past month, not least of which was
the Virtual Town Hall on January 31. For a full
reminder of these efforts, please refer back to the January
Newsletter.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Winter Member
Survey. The questions and comments included in those responses, as
well as the feedback we heard at last month's committee meetings
really guided our efforts in the Town Hall presentation.
The reactions thus far have been incredibly positive. Please
continue to let your Advisor know what you thought of the Town Hall
and what questions you may have so the appropriate League Leader
can provide you with support. The presentation and a comment form
will be available online soon.
Leadership is continuing to work together to strengthen our
processes and programming for members, particularly in New &
Transfer Member Onboarding. We would love to hear your feedback in
your own experience. Please share your onboarding experience with
your Advisor so leaders can make the appropriate considerations in
our new plans.
In addition to all the efforts that leadership is making, I want
to remind you, as a member, of the power you hold within this
organization. I challenge you to take accountability for your
experience as a member by participating, engaging, asking
questions, learning, and diving in head first. One of the greatest
things about the Junior League of Martin County is that every
single member has the ability to shape and transform the
organization. There is every opportunity for your voice to be
heard. You just have to speak up.

2023-2024 Impact Initiatives
Through hands-on training and formal learning opportunities we
give members the skills needed to improve the quality of life in
the communities we serve. To continue the Junior League's tradition
of identifying problems and finding solutions in a collaborative
way, we focus our community projects, training opportunities,
fundraising, and advocacy on initiatives that fall into our impact
areas. After polling members, we identified the top priorities in
each of our impact areas:
Women: domestic violence;
human trafficking; and women's health
Children: child sex
trafficking; self-esteem; teen dating violence; and health,
nutrition, and food insecurity
Civic Leadership:
individual leadership training
These impact areas drive all of the
year's activities in community service, education and advocacy,
organized by the committees. If you have any questions or concerns,

Mission & Vision
Mission
To advance women's leadership for meaningful community impact

President's Message
Dear Friends,
Happy New Year! It feels like just yesterday we were still
enjoying summer at our League Kick Off at Sailor's Return. In the
blink of an eye, we're already ringing in the new year! I hope
everyone had a fabulously fun and healthy holiday season.
A tradition of mine as part of my preparations for a new year is
to have an honest reflection of the past year. It isn't always
pretty or comfortable, but I attribute a lot of my personal and
professional growth over the years to this practice. I'm grateful
to have the honor of including JLMC in my reflections this
year.
It's come to my attention that there's a lot of confusion
throughout the League. It's always been my hope, and the hope of
the rest of our League leaders, to empower fellow members and leave
this organization a little better than we found it. There's been so
much great work completed in the first half of this year, and I'm
excited to share some upcoming opportunities for you to learn more
about how we're positioning the organization for a successful
future and also to ask any burning questions you may have.
Winter Member
Survey. Throughout each year, the Advisory-Nominating
Committee coordinates member surveys, which are shared with the
Board of Directors to learn what's going well and the areas for
improvement. Your engagement in these surveys helps drive change
for how this League operates and how it's governed. Complete the
survey here.
President &
Vice President Committee Meeting Visits. Throughout the
month, Lara and I will attend each committee meeting. We want to
hear from each of you, in an intimate setting, what questions,
concerns, challenges, etc. are. Whether you want to learn more
about your committee responsibilities or about the league as a
whole, we are excited to hear from you! Connect with your committee
chair for meeting details.
Advisory-Nominating Committee

Community Committee Meeting:

Fund Development Committee

Membership Committee Meeting:
January 11 at 6:30 pm
Virtual Town
Hall. Based on the questions/comments we receive in the
survey and committee meeting visits, the Board of Directors will
collaborate on a presentation to provide more information, clarity,
and context. With special emphasis on our budget and financial
information, we'll share context on recent history of our league,
detail on where we're at now and how we're positioning our
organization for success in the future. Communications will be
shared later. Save the date for January 31 at 6 pm.
New & Transfer
Member Connections. We're collaborating with Membership
and Advisory-Nominating to create ongoing opportunities to connect
with new members and transfers and provide further league education
to support this transition and enhance member experience.
Member &
Leader Onboarding. We're developing an improved framework
and comprehensive plan for onboarding of members and JLMC leaders
each year. And we're giving further consideration to how and when
we start our League year moving forward.
In addition to these opportunities, I challenge each of you to
take accountability for your experience as a member in this
organization. Engage, participate, show up, ask questions, share
ideas, advocate for yourself, inquire and investigate. One of the
greatest things about our small league is that every member has the
ability to shape and transform this league. There is every
opportunity for your voice to be heard. You just have to speak
up.
Please read through these monthly newsletters. They are a
great resource for the month ahead and also contain a wealth of
information that can benefit your understanding of our League. In
addition to delivery to your mailbox, these newsletters also live
in perpetuity in the Member Area. If
you experience issues logging in, please contact your

President's Message
Dear Friends,
I hope your Halloween was full of sweet treats, spooky ghouls,
happy kids, and scary screams! Though the weather doesn't show it,
we have officially entered holiday season For myself and many
others, work and other life commitments are particularly busy this
time of year, making it easy to forget the reason for the season.
My hope for all of us this year is that we're able to stay present,
feel grateful, and enjoy the special time with our loved ones.
At our GMM last month, the Membership Committee hosted our first
inaugural Chilli Cook-Off. Several members entered their chili into
the blind tasting contest and others chipped in to complete the
meal with cornbread, salad, and more. I am pleased to share that
Lara Bailey won first place in the cook-off. Congratulations, Lara!
I hope you'll all keep perfecting your recipes and join us in our
second annual cook-off next fall.
Jamie Bond, from Place of Hope, joined our GMM to teach us
more about the issues and prevalence of human trafficking,
domestic violence, and poverty in our community. We learned what
Place of Hope is doing to meet the needs of those afflicted by
these issues, and we also learned what each of us catalysts of
change can do to help.
We also had a brief reaffirmation of our new mission
statement: to advance women's leadership
for meaningful community impact through volunteer action,
collaboration, and training.
We achieve our mission through:
Volunteer action — service
opportunities coordinated by Community Committee
Training — workshops, conferences,
serving in leadership roles, learning how to plan and execute a
large-scale fundraising event like Reindeer Dash, etc.
Collaboration — by collaborating with
other community leaders (policymakers, change-makers, nonprofits,
etc.) we can (1) learn more about issues impacting our community;
(2) become educated advocates; and (3) leverage our skills and
leadership to create change for the better.
Through these channels, we advance leadership amongst ourselves,
to create meaningful community impact. What kind of community
impact is determined by our impact areas and initiatives, voted on
by all our members earlier this year.
In the spirit of the season, I want to take a moment to tell you
all how grateful I am to each of you. I am grateful for your
friendship, for the unique experiences we all share together,
and for helping make me a better person and leader. Amongst what I
hope is a very long list of things you're thankful for this year, I
hope the Junior League of Martin County is one of them.

To advance women's leadership for meaningful community impact

President's Message
Dear Friends,
It's hard to believe that it's already October. We had our first
General Membership Meeting (GMM) last month, held at Nostalgia's
Greek Italian Kouzina. It was so great to see everyone and share
all of the exciting updates and new features to look forward to in
this upcoming year.
I mentioned at our GMM that we will no longer use our meeting
time to report out on upcoming events and updates. You can peruse
this important information in the Member Area at your leisure.
Instead, our time together will include valuable experiences, where
we learn about our impact areas and community issues, complete
service projects, and participate in educational trainings.
Also new this year are Affinity Groups. These are interest-based
social groups, organized exclusively for JLMC members. You can be
in as many groups as you'd like. Want to start a group for your
favorite hobby? Email membership@jlmcflorida.org.
Please take some time to explore our updated pages available in
the Member Area, including news, calendar events,
committee announcements, resources, our league photo gallery, and
more. If you're experiencing trouble logging in, please reach out
to your Advisor.
Have a spooktacular month!

President's Message
Dear Friends,
Our League Year officially kicked off this past week,
with Sunset at Sailor's! It was a fabulous evening of
reconnection and fun with our fellow members and friends. And the
night's sunset did not disappoint! Thank you, Laura Baird,
and the Membership Committee for coordinating this event.
I mentioned last month that our Board of Directors and
Management Team have been hard at work these past few months
planning for the upcoming year. In this new year, we are grounding
our efforts in member recruitment, education, and engagement, while
clarifying our impact initiatives.
I am so pleased to share that we have already had a number of
new members and transfers join our League this summer. Welcome Alex
Adams, Samantha Conway, Morgan Karr, Leslie Fidler, Joanna Mangan,
Brooke Martson and Roxanna Scaffidi! We are absolutely thrilled to
have you and we can't wait to get to know each of you more
throughout this upcoming year! We will welcome our newest members
at the start of each monthly GMM.
There is a lot of information in this month's newsletter. If
email isn't your thing, you can also read our monthly newsletters
in the Member News page

President's Message
Dear Friends,
I cannot believe summer is already nearing its end. I hope your
summer has been full of fun, relaxation, and travel... and lots of
air conditioning!
With the end of summer comes the start of a new season. As a
child, I always looked forward to the feeling of a new school year
approaching. The back-to-school clothing shopping, new school
supplies, as well as the changing season of fall represented a
special kind of optimism for all the new possibilities ahead.
I hope that the start of our new year in Junior League brings
you a similar kind of optimism and excitement. Our leadership has
been hard at work trying to set our League up for success, and we
are grounding our efforts this year in member recruitment,
education, and retention. This will be a season of change for the
Junior League of Martin County, and I look forward to sharing some
of these changes with you at our first General Membership Meeting
(GMM) on Tuesday, September 19.
I am so looking forward to kicking off this new year with you
all, starting with our Meet and Mingle recruitment event on Sunday,
August 13 and Sunset at Sailor's, our annual kickoff party, on
Wednesday, August 23. To participate, please make sure to pay your

Summer sure is heating up down here! I hope you are all staying

President's Message
Dear Friends,
As our Junior League starts its new fiscal year, I feel so
humbled and honored to start my two-year term as President of this
wonderful organization. My sincerest hope for us all is that we can
learn and grow together, while strengthening our friendships and
giving back to our beautiful community.
This past year we celebrated the 35th anniversary of the Junior
League of Martin County and reflected on all our accomplishments.
Throughout our rich history, JLMC has been on the forefront of
social reform, identifying problems and finding solutions in a
collaborative way. We've tackled a long list of community issues,
including: poverty, illiteracy, food insecurity, and
under-resourced foster children.
As we look forward to the future, our approach is simple.
Through hands-on training and formal learning opportunities, we
will equip our members with the skills and leadership needed to
improve the quality of life in the communities we serve. By
identifying opportunities and impact areas focused on women,
children, and civic leadership, we can address serious issues and
have a powerful impact in Martin County.
The following newsletter is full of opportunities for you to
help shape our efforts this upcoming year. I invite you to use your
voice to help make our Junior League the best it can be.

At the GMM this past week, we learned about a some of the
fundraising updates.
Pineapple Palooza has been cancelled for 2021.
With the history behind this event
- the Pineapple Ball being a successful event for 12 years
- the onset of COVID delaying the original date in 2020
- and now the still existing concern around COVID as it relates to
all our members, including sustainers
Everyone involved has decided that it is best that we do not hold
Pineapple Palooza this year.
Additionally, the Lunafest event has been cancelled as
well.
In order to offset these events, the fundraising team in
conjunction with the board has determined that they will launch the
"Little Black Dress Initiative" with the members. More details to
come!

The Junior League of Martin County wrapped up 2020 with a
socially-distant holiday party!
One of our members, Laura Baird opened her outdoor patio to us
and we even had a Taco Truck on site, (in her driveway to be exact)
where we were able to enjoy fresh Mexican cuisine while
reconnecting before the holidays.
In January 2021, we had our annual placement fair where we met
in person, to sign up for committees for the new year.
And just yesterday, we held our GMM at the children's museum
and virtually. Barring a few tiny technical difficulties, it was a
great event. Most notably, Laura Baird presented the community
projects as part of our community project review (CPR).
An important announcement was made that Pineapple Palooza is
cancelled for 2021. As an alternative, the league will be
participating in the little black dress initiative.
lastly, we will be closing our office as we look at opening a
storage unit to store all of our materials and event items.

12th Annual Rudolph’s Reindeer Dash 5K
raises $20,000 for Junior League of Martin County
Racers
joined in the fun on December 5 at the 12th Annual Rudolph’s
Reindeer Dash 5k, which this year took place both virtually and in
person with precautions at Memorial Park in Historic Downtown
Stuart.
Over 374 participants took part in the highly anticipated
event, helping to raise over $20,000. Proceeds will help support
the JLMC’s programs that improve the local community, including
support for The Children's Museum, Martin County School District,
United Way White Doves Holiday Project, Gertrude Walden Center,
Hibiscus Children’s Center, and more.
This year’s race followed all CDC guidelines for a safe and
healthy event, with the first ever virtual option.
“Planning
the event during the COVID-10 pandemic was certainly a challenge we
haven’t faced before, but thanks to the hard work of our volunteers
and the support of our participants, this year’s race was a safe,
fun and successful start to the holiday season,” said Sara
Steinhauer, who co-chaired the event with Andi McAvoy. “We are
grateful and excited to have raised $22,187, which will have a
direct impact on improving the lives of children and families in
Martin County.”
Organizers are already looking forward to the 2021 Reindeer
Dash, which will take place on December 4, 2021.
“Junior League's Reindeer Dash is an event we look forward to
each year,” said racer Gretchen Abell, who took first place in the
female open division. “This has become to be one of our favorite
traditions- kids, friends and family all included. There's a way
for everyone to enjoy the race and kick off the holiday
season!”

Stuart, Fla. – The Junior League of Martin County (JLMC) will
host their 12th Annual Rudolph’s Reindeer Dash 5K on Saturday,
December 5 from 7:00 am – 9:00 am.
This event, which is held in Downtown Stuart at Memorial Park,
is JLMC’s biggest fundraiser of the year and one of the most highly
anticipated events on the Treasure Coast. Proceeds will help
support the JLMC’s programs that improve the local community.
The annual fundraiser features a 5k run, 10k run, Tot Trot, a
visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus, refreshments, vendors, awards,
goodie bags, race t-shirts and fun! This year’s event will be
following all CDC guidelines for a safe and healthy event, and
organizers have added a virtual run option for those
interested.
Andi McAvoy and Sara Steinhauer are chairing this year’s
Reindeer Dash. “It has certainly been a challenging year, but we
are looking forward to spreading some cheer this holiday season,
and are excited to continue the much-loved tradition of the
Reindeer Dash with safety top of mind,” said McAvoy.
In accordance with the Junior League’s focus of increasing
opportunities for at-risk kids, participation by children and
teenagers is encouraged. “Junior Dashers” (ages seven and under)
are invited to compete in their own 100-yard Tot Trot.
Entry fees are $35 for the 5k, $45 for the 10k, $20 for the
kids dash or $30 for the virtual run. Sign up individually or as

Save the Date:
#GivingTuesday is December 1!
We’re proud to be a part of this global celebration of
giving.
Giving Tuesday, often stylized as #GivingTuesday for the
purposes of hashtag activism, refers to the Tuesday after U.S.
Thanksgiving in the United States. It is a global movement that
unleashes the power of people and organizations to transform their
communities and the world.
It’s a simple idea: whether it’s making someone smile, helping
a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people we
care about, or giving some of what we have to those who need our
help, every act of generosity counts and everyone has something to
give.
